Happy New Year everyone!  It's been an interesting year for me both personally and professionally.  Here is a chronological summary:

  • In May my wife called me while I was at a user conference in Huatulco Mexico and informed me that she was pregnant -- our first, planned, and our first try.  Our baby girl is due in just a few weeks.
  • In October I finally had enough with my then employer.  The politics, lack of vision at all levels, ineffectiveness, and general disregard for customers and employees led to my decision.  My wife and I prayerfully made the decision and I took a position with one of my former clients.  The advantages: a private company, less layers in the organization chart, a little more money, still get to work from home (most of the time), no travel, and a great boss that I had a current business relationship with.  The disadvantages: not quite as good benefits and having to relocate my family.
  • In early November I started my new job, and because of my familiarity with the company I was able to hit the ground running.
  • Early December, my wife and I signed the contract to build a new house in Georgia.

I've been working on mostly legacy VB6/script code for my employer's current systems.  We're actually using a product of my former employer, VisiWatch, for most of the workflow needs -- at least for now.  I'm looking forward to some of things we will be working on once we get the existing systems under more control.  There is much to be cleaned up, many rogue Access databases, etc.

My focus on these older technologies is probably why my posting frequency has been so abysmal.  Once Sharon and I get moved to Georgia it'll be a better opportunity to sit down with the stakeholders for the new systems we want and begin that whole process.  I'm really looking forward to it.  And it will hopefully lead to more posts.

I'm looking forward to the move to Georgia.  I've moved from Minnesota, to Colorado, to Virginia, and now to Georgia.  I enjoy the new places and the new people.  I'll be a ways outside of Atlanta, but perhaps I'll be able to hook-up with a local .NET users group.

Dude, forget the user groups in Atlanta (although Matt and Brendon do rock)...three words for you:

Falcons Season Tickets

(I mean, c'mon, you can't still be a Vikings fan, right?)

Congrats on the baby on the way!
