Chris G. Williams Beware: I mix tech and personal interests here.
This morning I received 4 phone calls (all within 10 minutes) from 4 different local car dealerships.

All of them asked for me by name and all of them claimed that I had sent them an email requesting information about some car I had never heard of. I politely (no, really, I did) informed them that I was not interested in the vehicle they mention and that I never sent them an email.

Sadly, there are few things in this world more persistent and annoying than a car salesman. (Oh the stories I could tell...) So, by the 4th call I had given up on any attempt at rational discourse and was just answering the phone with "don't call back" and hanging up.

The thing is, I contacted one (local) dealership (not one of the ones that called me today, btw) over the internet about a totally different car about a month ago. I didn't buy the car, or even come into the dealership. Other things came up.

So... apparently they decided it would be ok to share my personal information with other dealers in the area. THANKS A LOT Dick Brooks Honda Of Greer!! Next time I consider buying a vehicle, you can bet your ass I won't be buying one from you!!

(*while typing this post, two more dealerships called me... making a total of 6. Grumble Grumble*)

Edit:  we're up to 9 calls in 3 hours now. All from different dealerships. These guys really put the DICK in Dick Brooks Honda Of Greer.  Oh and it's 10 if you count the annoying lady who called claiming we set up an appointment for new windows. New windows... wtf???

Edit: now its up to 15 for the day. Of course that's counting the annoying windows lady and the 2 people trying to sell me diabetic testing supplies.

Aren't there laws down there that prohibit people from sharing info like email addresses without getting your permission first?

There's two scary things here...one is that they shared the info...the other is that now htere's, basically, phone spam being seen as an acceptable marketing tool?!

Wow.

How to handle unsolicited phonecalls.

1) Politely say "excuse me, the children are misbehaving, be right back"
2) set down the phone and walk away.

Thats it. Always curious how long the salecritters actually wait on me to come back.
